Impro Avgarde

This coming Saturday i´m playing an extensive set consisting of three different approaches to electro-acoustic music and three different approaches to improvised music.

I´m giving three performances with wonderful musicians that are close to my heart and inner-ear.

"Forgiven but not fagotten" was written for Anthony Ringdal who´ll be performing the piece on Saturday.
It´s the latest work in a series of electro-acoustic pieces written for solo instrument. In this case the solo instrument is bassoon and the part is improvisational within a strict structure.
In this EA series of mine the "accompanying" tape derives of processed samples that come solely from the acoustic instrument. During performance the "live" sound from the solo instrument is also processed electronically on stage.
Saturdays performance of "Forgiven but not fagotten" will be the world premiere.

"Improlaps" is a free-improvisation unit consisting of Thomas Dahl - Guitar, Anthony Ringdal - Bassoon, Ingar Ben Nordby & myself - Percussion & Electronics.
We´ve previously performed at Nattjazz (the international jazz festival in Bergen) and will be performing on Saturday in glorious surround-sound!

"Friimprovisertenergiinyjazz" is the working title/mantra for a brand new duo with saxophonist Kjetil Møster who i´ve previously improvised with in the short-lived unit "Random Sample". We´ve never worked as a duo before but i´m really looking forward to the opportunity!
Kjetils merits include winning the International Jazz Award of the years for New Talent in 2005 & received the Vossa Jazz Award 2009.
Kjetil has worked with many of Norways finest improvisers including:
The Core, Ultralyd, Håvard Wiik, Paal Nilssen-Love, Jon Christensen, Mats Eilertsen, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Per ”Texas” Johansson, Håkon Kornstad and is a member of Bergens own Datarock!

Saturday night´s alright for a fight!

Borealis

As mentioned below my new composition Cantilene was performed at this Borealis. In addition I also performed at Bergen's Race-track (interesting venue nr. 2!), at Avgarde and attended and participated in masterclasses with Lemur and Michael Finnissy.
It was a busy, but fruitful and inspiring week!

Cantilene

My new piece for organ, "Cantilene", was premiered at this years Borealis festival.
Performed by Solveig Sørheim at St. Jørgens Hospital.
The venue, a chapel in a latter day home for lepers(!), proved to be a very atmospheric location that i´d love to perform in again.

Troglodyte Transition

At the weekend I had the great experience of hearing my new piece "Troglodyte Transition" performed by one of Norway's best brass bands, Manger Musikklag, conducted by one of Norway´s best conductors, Peter Szilvay, in one of Norway´s best concert halls, Grieghallen, ...and it was packed!

What an experience!

I feel utterly privileged and inspired.

Thanks a million to all involved
